BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after they said he stole a car with valuables inside.

According to a press release, Brandon Montgomery Mays, 31, of Mountain Vernon, Missouri stole a 2012 Dodge Charger on June 10.

The car was stolen from a home on Baxter County Road 276 in the Lakeview area, according to the report.

There was a lock box inside the vehicle containing a gold piece and jewelry valued at $4,000 as well as prescription medications belonging to the victim.

On May 16, investigators learned that some of the jewelry had been pawned at a pawn shop in Springfield, Missouri.

The sheriff’s department then obtained a bench warrant for Mays’ arrest.

Mays was later arrested in Lawrence County, Missouri on June 10.

He was later extradited to Baxter County.

The press release said the vehicle has not been found.

Mays was charged with two felony counts of theft of property, felony controlled substances, and felony fraudulent practices.

He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond and will appear in the circuit court on June 23.
