JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A man attempted to run from police and resist arrest after beating a pregnant woman, according to a Jonesboro police report.

Jonesboro police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at 9:43 p.m.Tuesday.

Dispatchers told officers that Eddie Washington, 31, of Jonesboro struck a woman and then fled the scene in a gray Dodge pickup truck.

When police arrived at the home on the 500 block of Olive, the truck was parked in front and the victim met them at door.

She was crying with redness under her left eye. She told police that Washington attacked her and left after she called 911.

Police told the victim that the truck was still in the driveway and she said he must be on foot.

The gate to the backyard was slightly opened and as police began to check the area, they found Washington hiding underneath the porch.

Officer's gave Washington verbal direction which he did not follow. He then began crawling away from police.

Police said Washington would not place his hands behind his back and was attempting to escape.

He continued cursing and told officers that he did not have to listen because, it was "a free country", according to the incident report.

Police walked Washington to the patrol car and he began to kick off his shorts. The arresting officer secured and double locked his handcuffs and transported him to the CCDC.

After officers went back into the house to check on the victim, they saw that she was pregnant and she said she was due in three weeks.

The victim told police that she and Washington had been arguing and after he became physical with her, she told him to leave the home.

After this she went into the bedroom to help him pack and Washington grabbed her and shoved her on the bed, according to the incident report. She told police he then got on top of her and struck her right hand.

The victim then began yelling for her  daughter to call police when Washington stood up.

Washington was booked at the CCDC for Domestic Battering 2nd Degree, Refusal to Submit and Fleeing.
