Athlon Sports Preseason All-SBC Football Team Features League-High 19 A-State Selections

JONESBORO, Ark. (6/15/16) – Athlon Sports has announced its 2016 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Football Team, which features a league-high 19 Arkansas State selections made up of 17 different players.

A-State has claimed four of the last five Sun Belt championships and is coming off a 9-4 campaign in 2015 that saw the Red Wolves produce an unblemished 8-0 league record on their way to the conference title.

Including a combined six first-team choices, Arkansas State saw eight players from both the offensive and defensive side of the ball find a place on Athlon Sports' preseason All-SBC list.  Junior cornerback Blaise Taylor was not only a member of the second-team defense, he was also named the squad's top punt and kick returner and joined as a special-teams selection by senior kicker J.D. Houston as a third-team pick.

Representing A-State's offense on the first team were senior offensive linemen Jemar Clark and Colton Jackson.  Junior wide receiver Dijon Paschal and senior center Devin Mondie were both named to the second team, while junior running back Johnston White, junior receiver Cameron Echols-Luper and senior offensive lineman Joseph Bacchus were tabbed third team.  Echols-Luper made the squad as an all-purpose selection, and sophomore running back Warren Wand was named to the fourth team.

Four A-State defenders were named first team, including junior defensive lineman Dee Liner, junior defensive end Ja'Von Rolland-Jones, senior linebacker Xavier Woodson-Luster and senior safety Cody Brown.  Senior defensive lineman Waylon Roberson was a third-team choice, while junior linebacker Khari Lain and Chris Humes were both named fourth team.

Arkansas State will kick off its season with a home game against Toledo on Friday, Sept. 2.  Season tickets for the Red Wolves' 2016 football campaign, which includes six home games, are available for purchase. Arkansas State has strung together 11 consecutive years with a winning home record dating back to 2005 and has won 26 of its last 30 games at Centennial Bank Stadium.
