JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A dead battery did not keep someone from stealing a Jonesboro woman’s electric wheelchair.

Thursday evening the 57-year-old victim told police someone stole her red Jazzy electric wheelchair from the front porch of her apartment in the 1100-block of Walker Court.

The woman said the wheelchair—valued at $3,000—had battery problems and was on the porch for a week, waiting for the repair company to pick it up.

The victim said she had just moved into the apartment and, because of the boxes, she had no room inside to store it.

She said the only way it could have been moved is if someone had pushed it from the porch.

Officer Jeremy Smith reported he searched the yard for tracks and went to several nearby vacant apartments under construction, then he checked the complex and spoke with several residents.

No one reported seeing the missing wheelchair.

Smith noted the victim is currently using an old wheelchair.
