JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro woman thought she had won $1 million and a brand new car.

Instead, police say she lost more than $1,000 in a familiar scam.

The 69-year-old woman told officers that two people called her on May 1 and said she had won a 2016 Mercedes Benz and $1.7 million.

In order to collect her prizes, they told her to send a money order for $359.50 to a woman in Florida.

According to the incident report, the victim did as she was instructed.

A month later, the suspects told the woman to send $661.50 to a man in New Jersey.

Again, the woman did as instructed.

On Thursday, the suspects called the woman again asking for more money.

The woman told the suspects she couldn’t send anymore.

When she started asking questions, the woman said the suspect told her to burn all of her receipts.

He then hung up the phone and did not answer any of her multiple attempts to contact him.

The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division for review.
