JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police are investigating after a man was shot in his home during an apparent burglary Saturday morning.
According to a Jonesboro Police Department incident report, officers were dispatched to the 200-block of Center Street for a welfare check just after 3 a.m.
Dispatch told officers the victim, a 39-year-old man said someone shot him in the back and left.
When officers arrived, they found the man sitting in a chair in the kitchen.
He told an officer that someone knocked on his door and then kicked in the door.
He said when he saw the suspect had a gun, he turned and ran toward his bedroom. That is when the suspect shot him in the back.
The man told police that the suspect was a black man who was around 25 years old and was wearing a white shirt and dark pants.
He was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center for treatment.
While officers were still at the scene, the man's neighbors arrived home and told officers that they saw a red Pontiac Grand Prix sitting outside a neighboring house about 30 minutes earlier.
One of the neighbors said that a person in the car told him he was waiting to pick someone up. The neighbor reportedly thought that was weird because the people in that house go to bed early.
The person then moved the car in front of the victim's house.
Officers found a red Pontiac that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle.
The officer took a photo and showed a lineup of cars to the neighbors.
One neighbor matched the vehicle very closely but did leave out the fact it had a missing hubcap.
The other neighbor told the officer that the front windows were not tinted but the back windows were.
The neighbors also told officers that there was a tall, black woman with a long braided hair wearing yoga pants with the suspect.
The victim did not see a woman but did say that he heard a woman telling the suspect to "come on" after he was shot.
