JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested a Jonesboro man for assault after he fired a shotgun Friday night.
According to a Jonesboro Police Department incident report, officers were dispatched to the 2400-block of Jones Street just after 8 p.m. Friday.
Dispatch told the officers there was a man on scene with a gun and that he was possibly inside a victim's apartment.
While heading to the scene, one of the officers were flagged down by a man who said the suspect, 70-year-old Bill Hannah, had a shotgun and fired a round.
When officers arrived, they saw Hannah walking in front of his apartment with the gun.
Officers then pulled their weapons out and told him to drop the gun.
Instead, Hannah went back into the apartment and then stuck his head out the door.
Officers asked him to show his hands and he complied.
They were able to get him into custody and an officer was able to find the gun, which had a spent shell casing.
An officer spoke to the victim who told him that she was cleaning her apartment when her son ran outside.
When she went to get him, Hannah began talking to her.
He told her that she was pretty, according to the report, and the woman asked if he had a box fan she could borrow because her electricity was off.
Hannah said she could borrow a fan if he could perform a sexual act on her.
He then reportedly tried to grab her breast. She shoved him away and went back into her apartment with her son.
Her son ran back outside and she heard Hannah yelling.
She went outside to see that Hannah was holding a gun. She grabbed her son and went back into her apartment and called police.
While she was on the phone with dispatch, she said she heard a gunshot.
Hannah was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
He is charged with a felony for aggravated assault and a misdemeanor for public intoxication.
