POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

A broken taillight landed a couple in jail after police say the woman tried to toss out a bag of meth.

Just after 10:30 Friday night, Poplar Bluff Police Officer Billie Duckett stopped a white Ford F-150 at the corner of Kentucky and Midland for having no taillights.

As Duckett approached the truck, both the driver and the passenger got out.

After getting the couple back into the truck, Officer Robert Reed saw a baggy containing a “white crystal substance” on the ground under the passenger door, according to a news release from Sgt. Darron Moore.

The bag contained 7.2 grams of methamphetamine, the report stated.

Police arrested Scott Markham, who was driving the car, on outstanding warrants.

They also arrested his passenger, Tammy Hall, for possession of a controlled substance.

Both are being held at the Butler County Justice Center.
