POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

A local group recently made a warm donation to a Region 8 school district.

On Thursday, the Missouri Association for Family and Community Education donated 11 weighted blankets to the Poplar Bluff School District for students with autism.

Volunteers from the group sewed the blankets by hand, which are said to have therapeutic value for those with sensory disorders.

Special Services Director Mindy Garrett said the blankets will be a “huge help in keeping students in need focused and relaxed.”

The district will distribute the blankets to the Early Childhood Center, Oak Grove, and O’Neal Elementary Schools, according to a news release from Poplar Bluff R-1.
