KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - "Horrible."

That's how an employee at a Region 8 veterinarian's office describes a puppy's condition.

Someone found the 12-week-old puppy on South Anthony Street and took him to the Kennett Humane Department which, in turn, took him to the Kennett Veterinary Clinic, 1704 St. Francis, to be treated by Dr. Everett Mobley.

On Wednesday, an employee at the clinic told Region 8 News the puppy's skin is "horrible."

She said the pup must be bathed every day with medicated shampoos.

The baths hurt him so much; they have to give him pain medications.

In addition to the skin fungus, which has created open sores on his body, the puppy also has intestinal worms.

But, aside from that, she said he is in "pretty good shape." She added the puppy is eating and drinking and is alert.

KHD says it will cost approximately $400, barring any other complications, to treat him.

To make a donation, visit the clinic or call (573) 888-2255.

Saying they will not tolerate crimes against animals in the city, KHD officials said they are not only on a mission to save the puppy but to prosecute the person responsible.

Anyone with information on this case should call the KHD at (573) 888-4622.
