ARLINGTON, Texas (6/22/16) – Arkansas State women’s bowlers Jordan Richard and Haley Richard, both of Tecumseh, Mich., have been chosen to compete in a pair of international events for Junior Team USA and Team USA, respectively.
Jordan Richard will represent Junior Team USA at the World Youth Championships, set for July 26-Aug. 2 in Lincoln, Neb. She is coming off her sophomore season and first at Arkansas State where she earned First-Team National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-American honors. She tied the school record for all-tournament accolades in a season with six, including MVP honors at the Music City Classic and Southland Bowling League Championship. She was also named to the All-NCAA Tournament squad.
The World Youth Championships include the best bowlers in the world age 21 and younger and include bowlers from 34 different countries.
Haley Richard, who is a member of Junior Team USA, was selected to represent Team USA in the adult category of the Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas, set for July 25-30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at Strikers Family Sportscenter. The junior-to-be is coming off a solid sophomore season in which she was named an Honorable Mention NTCA All-American and picked up all-tournament honors at three events.
The Tournament of the Americas features bowlers from North America, Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and South America.
“I’m very proud of both Jordan and Haley for the opportunity to represent their country in these events,” A-State head women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “Jordan was one of the best bowlers in the country last year and proved it tournament after tournament for us. Haley is a very good player as well and was important in our run to our ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. We wouldn’t have gotten as far as we did without them both.”
