White County water war leads to lawsuit

BEEBE, AR (KAIT) - A White County town's expansion ended in a water fight and lawsuit.

The city of Beebe continues to expand.

According to ABC affiliate KATV, new homes and subdivisions are popping up in an area north of Highway 167.

Under the city's 20-year master plan, more homes are being brought into the city's water system.

The Southwest White County Water Association, however, serves many of those homes.

"I started noticing that they were adding service lines in our service territory," SOWCO General Manager Tate House told KATV.

House said his company lost nearly 140 customers to Beebe.

SOWCO received some of the customers back after filing a lawsuit.

The lawsuit ended in a settlement that drew well-defined boundaries that show which water suppliers serve particular areas.
