CARAWAY, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 town has an action packed day planned for the Fourth of July.
The 70th annual Fourth of July Picnic is set for Monday, July 4, 2016 in Caraway.
While it has been around for many years, volunteer Roger Williams said it has changed and grown.
"It started just as a picnic for soldiers," Williams said.
He spoke to Diana Davis on Midday Monday.
"We started a new group two years ago," Williams said. "It's called the Caraway Group of Volunteers, and we took over the Fourth of July and the Harvest Festival."
The group has worked to add new events and make the Fourth of July Picnic a success.
The day of events kicks off early Monday morning.
"At 7 o'clock at the City Park we'll have a 5k walk/run," Williams said. "There is $10 admission just for that."
Following the 5k, the parade will begin at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. our nation's veterans will be honored with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.
Live music will go from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. along with karaoke and prize giveaways.
At 6 p.m. there will be an adult and kids kickball game followed by a softball game.
The picnic also includes a dunking booth, bingo games, and a horseshoe tournament.
Williams said all of the proceeds from the picnic go to help the Caraway Group of Volunteers do special projects.
One of those projects is making Christmas baskets for children.
