Murder suspect's charges upgraded

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - The two charges against William Joshua Carter have been upgraded to first-degree murder, following the deaths of Heather Carter and Aaron Campbell on June 17.

Carter was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder after he was accused of purposefully hitting the two victims with his vehicle behind Manac Trailers on Riggs Street.

That was after he crashed into the SUV they were driving.

The second impact killed Campbell, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Heather Carter was pronounced dead later that day at Regional One Health in Memphis, due to injuries from the crash.

The suspect appeared in court Tuesday morning, where his motion for a change of judge was granted. The new judge will be appointed at a later date.
