BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 college is helping meet a need in the area.

Arkansas Community College in Batesville is partnering with the Batesville School District to train bus drivers.

The college is offering four classes over a two-week period so those interested can receive the bus driver certification.

There is a large need for drivers in Independence County.

Those districts include Batesville, Cave City, Southside, Cedar Ridge, Midland, Melbourne and Highland.

“They said they needed school bus drivers whenever the drivers they had needed a day off, possibly for medical leave or personal reasons," UACCB Director of Workforce and Education Zach Harber said. "They were having a hard time finding substitute drivers. So, there's a demand for part-time and full-time drivers."

If you are interested in the training, visit their website at http://www.uaccb.edu/ or contact them at 870-612-2001.
