Voters approve millage increase for Maynard School District

MAYNARD, AR (KAIT) - Maynard voters approved a millage increase.

Maynard School District Superintendent Patricia Rawlings said the unofficial votes from the Randolph County Clerk show 145 for the millage and 87 against it.

The 4 mil increase takes the millage from 30.7 to 34.7.

Rawlings said the millage will be used to construct and furnish a new fourth through sixth grade building that will house those students and high school students.

The district had a partnership with the state to build a new high school building and fourth through sixth grade building, according to Rawlings.

At the time, the district only had enough money to build a new high school building, expected to be complete this fall.

Rawlings said the current fourth through sixth grade building will have to be torn down and those students will be moved to the new high school building until construction on the new building is complete.

Rawlings said she hopes that project will be finished next spring.
