CLEBURNE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A swim beach on Greers Ferry Lake is closed until further notice because of high bacteria levels.

It is the beach near "Trouble Island" in Dam Site Park.

According to Arkansas Department of Health officials, the closure is due to unexpectedly high levels of E. Coli discovered in the water.

Officials said the high bacteria levels could be from a large amount of goose droppings.

The geese are more concentrated in the area because they are molting right now, which means they cannot fly.

It is also because a lot of people are feeding the geese, which makes them more used to human activity in the area.

Officials urge residents and visitors not to feed the geese.

The Corps has placed signs indicating high bacteria levels at the beach. Once the levels are within an acceptable range, the beach will be reopened to swimmers.
