Man arrested for stabbing relative in chest

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested one man early Wednesday morning after he reportedly stabbed a family member in the chest.

According to the incident report, officers responded to a fight around 12 a.m. Wednesday at the Willow Creek Apartments.

The victim told police he and his nephew, 20-year-old Andriek Rakale Newson, had been fighting and that no weapons were involved

The man was taken to NEA Baptist after medics discovered a stab wound on the left side of his chest. Medics also told police he might have a collapsed lung.

Officers placed Newson in custody. They also found he had a felony warrant out of Mississippi County.

Newson then told police he stabbed the man with a kitchen knife because he heard a thud while the victim and his aunt were arguing and thought she was hurt.

He is charged with felonies for domestic battery and aggravated assault.
