POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) -

Progress on the Ridge Land Townhomes West of Pocahontas continues.

Framing work has begun on the first 48 units that will be on the property.

The two and three bedroom townhomes are located just outside of Pocahontas city limits along Highway 62.

There are plans to annex the land into city limits in the future.

Owner and developer Michael Johnson said it has taken them awhile to get to this point because of the amount of land that had to be cleared and the work it took to run utilities to the property.

"It's been a long road. I'm glad to finally start seeing lumber going up," Johnson said.

He said the townhomes are coming at a crucial time. With new industry coming to Pocahontas, there's a need now more than ever for rental properties.

Johnson said there's already a list of people wanting to live in the townhomes once they open.

"And it is growing," Johnson said. "So we may just go into phase 2 and build out the remaining 120. We'll just see how soon that happens."

While the rear side of the property will hold the townhomes, the property that fronts the highway is being marketed toward business.

Johnson said he hopes phase one of Ridge Land Townhomes is completed within the next 8 to 9 months.
