POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - The Pocahontas Police Department is ensuring that one officer is protected while he protects and serves.
The department recently received word that K-9 officer Raiden will get a bullet and stab resistant vest from the non-profit organization Vested in K9's.
Raiden, who came to the department from Von Klein Stein Working Dogs in North Little Rock, is a multi-purpose dog.
Not only can he sniff out drugs, he can also subdue criminals.
Police Chief Cecil Tackett said unfortunately, that can put him in dangerous situations.
"This day and time, you never know," Chief Tackett said. "Dogs are expensive. The dog we have is over $10,000 and that's a big investment there so to have a stab resistant and bullet resistant vest is going to be a good thing."
Raiden was recently measured for his vest and he should receive it in a couple of weeks.
The vest, which costs roughly $2,000, will be given to the department free of charge.
