SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A person has drowned following a car crash in Sharp County.

According to Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts, multiple agencies were called out after 8:45 p.m. Monday to reports of a car crashing into Lake Mirandy in the Hidden Valley area of Highland.

Counts said a man and his son were fishing in the area when a storm came in.

The two got in the vehicle to get out of the storm and the car then rolled into the water according to Counts.

Counts said two officers went into the water and had to bust a window on the car to retrieve the victim.

The officers pulled the victim onto a nearby pontoon boat and began performing CPR.

After several failed attempts to revive the victim, Sharp County Coroner Nathan Circle pronounced him dead.

Counts identified the victim as 65-year-old Jimmy Hamm.

Hamm's son survived the incident according to Counts.

The sheriff said the two officers were injured while breaking the glass. They were both treated at an area hospital.
