JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

While others enjoyed a day off for the holiday, thieves were busy breaking into trailers at two Jonesboro trucking companies.

The first break-in, according to the police incident reports, occurred sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday at Saia, 8210 Jake Hunter Dr.

The terminal manager told police someone broke into at least 18 trailers.

The investigating officer stated it appeared a semi truck was used to move several of the trailers to gain entry.

The thieves entered several other trailers parked on the lot by cutting the door seals.

The second reported theft occurred sometime between 8 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Tuesday at Averitt Express, 5940 E. Highland.

An employee reported someone entered the building and opened four bay doors, then opened the doors to trailers in the bays.

According to the report, someone attempted to open the lock on one trailer with bolt cutters but was unsuccessful.

The culprits also opened three other trailers parked on the property.

Anyone with information on either of these incidents should call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP (7867).
