KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

A member of the Kennett Oaks Nutrition Center went before the city council in hopes of having a sales tax passed.

Director of the nutrition center Laura Ford made a request to the council for a city-wide 1/8 cent sales tax that the city would decide on in November.

The proceeds will allow the seniors to move into a larger building recently donated to them and allow expansion of their programs.

According to council member Roger Wheeler, they will decide on July 19 if the request goes onto the November ballot.

Wheeler said all proceeds would go exclusively towards senior citizens.
