JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man struck a police officer and another officer’s cruiser early Thursday morning, according to an incident report.

At about 1:22 a.m. Officer Trey Chism responded to a call at the Garden Manor apartment complex where a woman claimed two people had stolen her laptop earlier in the week.

She then pointed out one of the suspects, identified as 20-year-old Deandre Williams of Jonesboro, the report stated.

Chism spotted the suspect and started walking towards his vehicle. As the vehicle approached the officer, the driver clipped Chism’s left leg then continued down the parking lot toward Officer Jonathan Wood.

Officer Wood reported that the suspect sped up toward his patrol car which had his lights flashing and the siren on “in an attempt to cause the suspect to stop”.

Wood reported the suspect’s vehicle hit the patrol car and continued onto Warren Street. Other responding officers chased the vehicle until it came back to Garden Manor and struck a pole in the parking lot, ending the chase.

According to the initial incident report, when police searched the vehicle they found the reported stolen laptop.

Williams faces aggravated assault, fleeing, theft by receiving, reckless driving and several other charges. He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

A woman, Jasmine C. Adams, 19, of Jonesboro, claimed to be Williams’ girlfriend claimed the vehicle involved in the chase belonged to her. She was arrested for theft by receiving when officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Memphis.
