BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Free workshops offer opportunities for children to get behind the camera and behind the theater curtain.
The Arts Council of Mississippi County will host 2 workshops at the Ritz Civic Center in Blytheville.
A photography workshop is planned for July 11 through July 15.
The Creative Beginning Photography Workshop is open to anyone 8-years-old or older.
Participants will meet daily from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
David Lyttle, Executive Director of The Arts Council of Mississippi County, appeared on Region 8 News Midday Thursday.
"We have them meet at a different location in our community each day so they have different topics to take pictures of," Lyttle said.
Each day the workshop will focus on a different concept of photography including the rule of thirds and reflection.
Participants will need to provide their own digital camera with removable memory disc.
The other workshop is a Stage and Special FX Makeup Workshop planned for July 18 through July 22.
Students 12-years-old or older will meet from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily.
The instructor is Candi Groves who has a minor in Theater while also being a teacher at Blytheville High School.
"She does a couple of days just on basic stage makeup, but then the last 3 days of the workshop they get into special effects," Lyttle said. "They get to put the plastic forks sticking out of the back of their hands or the pencil through their hand."
An exhibit of photographs from the photo workshop as well as photos from the makeup workshop will be on display at The Ritz Gallery in August.
The Ritz is located at 306 West Main in Blytheville.
To register for either workshop stop by The Ritz or call 870-762-1744.
Participation is limited and students are accepted on a first come first serve basis.
