Cross County Sheriff's Office warns citizens of scams

CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Cross County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of three scams affecting the area.

According to a press release, aggressive individuals claiming to be with the IRS are using two numbers to call citizens.

The numbers are 1-855-888-5924 and 1-202-241-8602.

The caller’s says the person owes back taxes and ask for personal information and threatening to call the police if the person does not comply.

According to the release, the IRS will never call or ask for personal information, nor will they threaten to call police.

Cross County also says that several people have reported receiving calls from someone saying they are from Publishers Clearing House and that they have won several thousand dollars. Then they say that you must send a processing fee in order to receive the money.

The sheriff's office says to not give out any personal information as well.

Citizens and businesses have also complained of receiving calls from someone identifying themselves with Entergy. 

They say that their utilities will be shut off at their homes or businesses because they haven't paid their bill.
