Man accused of stealing truck says someone stole it from him

MELBOURNE, AR (KAIT) - An Izard County man is missing his truck and other items after an alleged thief said they were stolen from him.

Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence said in a news release Monday that 50-year-old David Hardin of Melbourne was arrested July 7 in connection with the theft of property from another Melbourne man.

The victim reportedly gave Hardin a place to stay after he was kicked out of his apartment.

While the man was out-of-state for four days Hardin, according to the sheriff, took his truck and other items including small tools.

Those items have not been found.

That's because Hardin told investigators when he drove the truck to Little Rock it was stolen from him.

Lawrence states Hardin is charged with one Class C felony as well as a Class A misdemeanor.

He is in the Izard County Detention Facility on $5,000 bond, and a court date was set for Monday.
