JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Homeless Task Force is looking to set up a one-stop shop to help the homeless.

According to Community Services Manager Emma Agnew, the idea is to have one building with multiple services for homeless people.

“The services are in the room primarily so there is not a lot of work to be done establishing or providing the services because the practitioners are on the task force for the most part,” Agnew said.

The services could range from hygiene assistance to medical exams and insurance assistance.

Agnew said task force members have looked at one-stop shops in other areas and believe the idea could benefit Jonesboro.

“With convenient services for people who find themselves homeless,” Agnew said.

She said the idea is in the preliminary stages right now since they do not have a building for the plan.

“We are exploring possible locations for that right now,” Agnew said. “Task force members are willing and able to provide the service it is just a matter of finding that location and pulling it all together."

Agnew said the idea will be very beneficial to homeless people because it cuts out finding multiple transportation outlets.

“If you are homeless most of the time you do not have transportation and so to have to go from place to place to get what you need begins to get difficult," Agnew said. "So the idea is to have everything in one building so they can come and get the services they need at one place."

Agnew said once a location is found she has faith the next steps will happen quickly.
