JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman told police a man climbed into her car and robbed her while she stopped to check her mail.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday in the 1300-block of Links Circle.
The 23-year-old victim said she parked her SUV and walked to the mailbox in the center of the apartment complex.
The woman got back into her vehicle and started backing up when someone from the backseat said, "Give me all your money and belongings and you will not get hurt."
The victim told the suspect "No" and tried to grab her pepper spray.
Before she could deploy the spray, the suspect grabbed her wrist and she told him to get out.
She said the suspect placed his hand in his pocket, suggesting he might have a weapon. He then took her $1,200 Louis Vuitton purse, containing $270 cash and her credit cards. She last saw him running toward the swimming pool.
Officers attempted a K9 track, but due to the recent rain, they were unable to track the suspect.
The victim described the man as being a black male, 5'9" weighing 150 pounds. She said he was wearing a white shirt. She could not remember if he wore a black hat or if his hair was pulled back.
While investigating, another woman flagged down Officer Trey Chism and said a black male in a white shirt was hiding behind a van in the 1400-block of Links.
Chism found the man who claimed he was visiting someone at the apartment complex but "could not provide a good address." After letting him go, Chism said the man walked toward Caraway which the officer stated seemed "out of place."
The man was wearing a white shirt with his hair pulled back, Chism stated in his report.
Investigators reportedly found two fingerprints in the SUV, including one on the back glass and another on the handle of the rear driver's side door. Both were logged into evidence at the Jonesboro Police Department.
