Armed Robber Concerning West Memphians

April 21, 2005 -- Posted at 6:28 p.m.

West Memphis, AR - Mid-South mom and pop stores bring in hundreds of customers everyday. Recently one small-town's Main Street has attracted an armed robber.

Broadway is one of, if not the busiest street in West Memphis. Over the past 3 or 4 weeks an armed robber has been approaching innocent people on the street. One store owner says he was working on his race car 3 weeks ago behind his Broadway business at 8:30 p.m. when he became a victim.

" I went around the corner and when I turned back around I had a gun pointed directly in my face," said the victim who didn't want to be identified.

Six other people have met this same guy and his semi-automatic weapon. He hasn't injured anyone so far but, he is brave enough to rip people of just yards away from the police department.

"He sees somebody that happens to be out going to a vehicle, or just walking down the street and that's apparently when he likes to make his move,"said Lt. Ken Mitchell with the West Memphis Police department.

Authorities are following up on a few leads and hope to make an arrest in the near future. They say they're pretty sure someone knows something about these robberies and they are asking for your help. If you know anything about this case call West Memphis Crimestoppers at (870) 732-4444. You could receive a cash reward.
