JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

2016 Bassmasters Champion Edwin Evers took Jonesboro resident and Valley View High School graduate Levi Crawford on one of the first Healing Heros in Action Tour stops.

It was to a private lake where Crawford was thrilled to fish alongside a man he had watched on television.

“He’s kind of an idol or a hero to me,” Crawford said. “I didn’t know about this too much. But, I got a call one day. We went out and fished and I caught the biggest fish of my life. Set new records on big fish several times that day.”

Crawford is a Wounded Warrior. He served in Afghanistan in 2010. That’s where a rocket-propelled grenade exploded in front of him and changed his life. Crawford is blind in one eye and has a scar on his right arm. It took a year for him to recover.

But, the Region 8 native says fishing is healing.

Now this same opportunity is being offered again to three Purple Heart vets when Evers comes to Jonesboro on Tuesday, July 26.

But, one extra person can bid on an opportunity to go with the group. Those interested in the fishing excursion can go to Edwin Evers’ Facebook page and find the post relating to his trip to Arkansas. Place your name and dollar amount in the post line.

“The highest bidder will get to come to a private lake that’s got some monster fish in it and enjoy a good meal and good food and good comradery," Crawford said. "If you’re the highest bidder on the 20th, he’ll call you right after. We’ll get everything set up and go fishing and have a great time!"
