KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in Kennett Sunday. On Monday, the names of those involved were released.

The incident happened in the 1100-block of Elm Street around 3:15 p.m.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, when officers arrived they found Shane McCormick was shot. He was transported to a Kennett hospital where he later died.

Holder states investigators learned a fight between Kenneth Bowles and McCormick's mother took place before the shooting at the same residence.

When the woman called her son to pick her up, McCormick reportedly confronted Bowles about the incident.

Another fight took place and Bowles shot McCormick, according to the sheriff.

Bowles was arrested for assaulting the woman and is at the Dunklin County Justice Center.

The Dunklin County prosecuting attorney will determine if additional charges are to be filed against Bowles in the shooting.

According to the Kennett Police Department, the entire investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime control.

This is reportedly due to "special circumstances due to a conflict of interest with employees of the city of Kennett."
