Movie program developed for people with sensory needs

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - One Region 8 woman recently began a new movie program at the Palace Theater in Pocahontas called Movies For Me, Too.

The program targets families and individuals who with sensory needs.

Lydia Jain created the program and said the theater plays kid-friendly movies in a different environment on weekends.

The sound is not as loud, there are more lights and people can get up and move around.

Jain said the theater has gotten positive feedback from the community, especially from parents with toddlers and autistic children.

"Our first showing a little boy came up to me and was like, 'thank you this is amazing that I'm able to come to the theater,' and there are adults that are coming to the theater that also have sensory friendly needs and it's their first time getting to see a movie on the big screen," Jain said. "It's a special experience to see a movie on the big screen."

The next sensory showing will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday when the theater shows The Secret Life of Pets.
