BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Blytheville Finance Committee is discussing a new bond issue proposal which would increase water rates.
John Callens, director of the finance department, said they need to improve the water system and the city's water filters.
He said the filters have a lifespan of 12 years and they have been in place longer than that.
He said the older it gets, the more water the city wastes and it costs the city more money.
Callens said a lot of meters are aging and they are looking to install a new well.
The last well was installed in 1998.
Callens said the finance committee plans to discuss this further before they bring it before the city council.
