JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A parolee is back in jail after he saw a video of himself casing a house in Jonesboro.
The Liles family of Jonesboro shared their Vivint home security camera footage with Region 8 News after they spotted a man walk onto their front porch and reach for their doorknob before being scared off by another security camera.
Later that day, Hoxie resident Carson Gates turned himself into the Hoxie Police Department.
A probable cause affidavit states that Gates then went to the Jonesboro Police Department for an interview.
"He stated that he had ran out of gas in front of the house," the affidavit states.
Gates told police he went to the front door to knock and ask for help.
"He stated that as he was about to knock on the door, he realized that he was a felon and that it would not look good for him to be at someone's front door at that time of day," the court document states.
Gates told police that he didn't know anyone in the area and had no business being in the area that time of day.
The probable cause affidavit also states that though Gates said he ran out of gas in front of the residence, he can be seen running down the street after seeing the camera.
Gates was charged with felony criminal attempt.
If convicted, he could face a $10,000 fine and/or 3 to 10 years behind bars.
Gates is scheduled to be back in court on August 26.
