JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A man wanted for stealing a $36,000 pair of earrings from a Jonesboro jewelry store in April appeared before a judge Friday.
District Court Judge Keith Blackman found probable cause to charge Earl Hudson Barber, 35, of Arlington, TN with theft $25,000 or more-all others.
Barber and an unidentified woman are accused of stealing a pair of diamond earrings valued at $36,000 from Sissy's Log Cabin, 2900 Parkwood, on April 14.
After snatching the pricey jewelry, the suspects sped away in a Hyundai Santa Fe, nearly hitting a store employee who had chased them out into the parking lot.
After security video of the heist appeared on Region 8 News' Crimestoppers, police received three tips identifying the male suspect as Barber. One woman who said she knew Barber told police she saw the earrings and heard him say he took them from a Jonesboro jewelry store, court documents stated.
On May 3, a judge issued an arrest warrant for Barber. At the time, police believed he lived in the Memphis area but also spent time in Florida.
This week, police in Florida arrested Barber, and he was extradited back to Jonesboro to face charges, according to Paul Holmes, public information specialist with the Jonesboro Police Department.
On Friday, Judge Blackman set Barber's bond at $100,000 and ordered him to appear in circuit court on Aug. 26.
The female suspect, according to police documents, has not been identified. Anyone with information on her identity or whereabouts should call Crimestoppers at (870) 935-STOP (7867).
