ABC director approves restaurant's private club permit

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Despite receiving letters of opposition from citizens and concerned religious leaders, the director of Arkansas's Alcoholic Beverage Control approved a new private club permit for a new Region 8 restaurant.

Three pastors and one area resident wrote letters opposing the permit application by Juan C. Aguilar of Main Street Pizza, 207 W. Main St. in Walnut Ridge.

Mayor Charles Snapp submitted a letter of support, according to the Department of Finance and Administration.

During the ABC board meeting on July 20 in Little Rock, Director Gary "Bud" Roberts granted the restaurant a private club permit conditional upon "completion of remodeling, receipt of health department approval, installation of all kitchen facilities, lighted fire exit signs, a landline telephone, with reinspection by ABC Enforcement."

In related news, during that same meeting, the board issued a $200 fine and placed on 60 days probation Bowles Liquor Store, 517 W. Keiser in Osceola, for purchasing wine from someone other than the wholesaler.

County Line Liquor, 6232 Hwy. 64 West in Parkin, received a $300 fine and 90-days probation for selling to a minor, according to the DFA website.
