CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) -

After hearing about a state-wide funding cut for Missouri public libraries, one Caruthersville man decided to help his local library.

John Rittenberry started a campaign called “Just One Book” that he saw was successful at an out-of-state library.

The library staff agreed to participate in the campaign.

They are asking residents to bring just one book of any kind, new or used, to the Caruthersville Public Library.

Rittenberry said he just saw this need in his community and wanted to help.

“You know, when you think about the cost to buy a book yourself, think about how you are going to supply an entire community on just a small amount for an entire year,” Rittenberry said. “So, I thought this was the perfect way to ease that burden.”

The campaign will run through the end of July.

Rittenberry said it has been a success so far.
