JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An Arkansas State University dean's music is honored after returning from Cuba.

In late October 2015, Region 8 News reported A-State Dean Don Bowyer was preparing for his trip to Cuba to record an original jazz piece.

Since visiting Cuba, the piece titled "Bugs and Gas" was released on the album Abrazo: The Havana Sessions.

The CD came out in June with Ansonica Records.

The album features Bowyer along with several other musicians.

Latinjazznet.com chose the album, featuring "Bugs and Gas," as its Album of the Month for July.

The article states this type of composition is not new, but this particular album is special.

"It is the first time a foreign producer has brought with him music by living composers of contemporary music from outside Cuba to be embraced and performed by Cuban musicians, who it was expected, would bring a unique dimension to these newly commissioned works," writer Raul da Gama wrote.

Bowyer has since performed his piece in Region 8, and the album is featured across several music platforms online.
