Petitions turned in to vote on making county 'wet'

INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Keep Our Dollars in Independence County, a local group working to give people the vote on whether the county should sell alcohol or not, submitted their petitions this week.

The group posted on their Facebook page that they collected several thousands of signatures more than the required 7,996 to place the issue on the November ballot.

The county clerk's office has 10 days to count and verify the signatures.

According to the post, the clerk's office will open late, at 10 a.m., for the rest of the week so the staff can focus on verifying the signatures.

Independence County Clerk Tracey Mitchell said her staff is coming in early and staying late each night to finish in time.
