Walnut Ridge sales tax increases more than 20%

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The City of Walnut Ridge's net sales tax for June was 21.7% higher than in May 2016, according to the June 2016 City Sales Tax and Use Funds Distribution report.

A post on the city's Facebook page stated that over $3.7 million worth of construction has been started in Walnut Ridge since October of 2015.

This includes both residential and commercial construction, however, the new jail project was not included in the figures because it does not bid until this week.

A new building set to go up on West Main was also not included in the figures.

Mayor Charles Snapp said he and his staff are currently working with the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and County Judge Dale Freeman on several other commercial operations that they hope to announce later this year.

Walnut Ridge's portion of the county sales tax rose 13% for June over May figures.
