MONETTE, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 mission group helped with some much-needed repair to a veteran's home.

Mike Smith, a two-time Vietnam War veteran, lives on a limited income and needed help making repairs to his roof, his floor, which had collapsed in certain areas of his home, as well as other areas.

Smith was unable to make the repairs due to his declining physical health.

Members of New Hope Baptist Church's God At Work mission group in Black Oak heard about the need and teamed up with members of the First Baptist Church in Monette to complete the project.

Robert and Marsha Chambers, two volunteers in the project, had experience making these types on repairs on homes across the country with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief group.

The team raised over $2,000 to cover the material needed for the repairs, and on July 16, 37 volunteers with the mission group showed up to Smith's home to begin work.

Repairs to Smith's roof are in the works, a date for that project has not been set yet.
