JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested two men on aggravated assault charges this week.
According to the incident report, it happened around 11:46 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000-block of Fairview Drive.
Police were called about a disturbance with weapons and dispatch said Willie Johnson was the possible suspect.
When police arrived on the scene, they saw several people outside the home and saw Willie Johnson Jr. run into the home.
Johnson Jr. ran up the stairs and police yelled for him to stop.
Police followed him into the home, and he eventually came back down the stairs.
As he was coming back down the stairs, several people outside yelled: "There he is, he's running around back!"
When police asked who they were talking about they said "Trey."
Police then asked if he had a gun, and the witnesses said he did.
When they ran to the back of the home, police saw Willie Johnson III running east through a neighbor's backyard.
When police told Johnson III to come to them, he did but would not look at police. He attempted to walk past police to the front of the home.
Police then grabbed him by the left arm and he dropped a black crowbar. Officers searched him but found no other weapons.
After speaking with several people at the home, police were told it all began with an argument between a woman and Johnson III.
According to the woman, Johnson III was yelling and cursing at her and her daughter, and he shoved both of them.
The woman told police she yelled for her son, and when he arrived, Johnson III began arguing with him.
The woman said that Johnson III and a man they knew as "D.J." both took handguns out of their pockets and began pointing them in their direction.
According to the woman, Johnson III was holding a small silver handgun, but she could not describe the handgun that "D.J" was holding.
The woman's daughter told police the same story but, according to her, the incident began with an argument between "D.J." and an unknown man.
Two other witnesses told police the incident began with an argument over Johnson III assaulting the mother and daughter.
Police then spoke to Johnson Jr., who said his son, Willie Johnson III, never had a gun, but he did have a silver wrench.
Johnson Jr. also said that the wrench was in his son's hand when police took him into custody.
Johnson III was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and charged with aggravated assault.
Police later found the man witnesses called "D.J.", who ran from the home when police arrived.
According to the incident report, after a chase on foot officers arrested Darren D. James, who told police he ran because he had warrants out for his arrest.
After speaking with dispatch police learned that James did not have any warrants out for his arrest.
James was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was charged with aggravated assault and fleeing on foot.
