Traffic stops leads to drug arrests

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested a man on drug charges after he tried to flee during a traffic stop.

According to the incident report, around 11 a.m Saturday, Corporal John Shipman made the stop near the intersection of Stone St. and Nettleton.

The driver who was speeding did not initially stop, but eventually 32-year-old Antonio D. Whitney pulled into a nearby parking lot.

Shipman spoke to Whitney, but when he went back to his patrol car, Whitney began to run away.

He ran toward a nearby apartment complex and when Shipman caught up with Whitney he ordered him to get on the ground with his taser out.

Whitney obeyed and was arrested.

When additional officers arrived, they saw a black bag hanging from a nearby tree limb.

Inside the bag, they found marijuana and other items associated with delivery.

Whitney was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and charged with fleeing, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver, and driving on a suspended license.

Whitney also had warrants for his arrest out of Poinsett County, and a hold was placed on him at the CCDC.
