JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Deadline is near to register for a softball tournament benefiting Region 8 communities.

The second annual Batting for a Better Tomorrow Softball Tournament is August 26 and 27 at the Southside Softball Complex.

Teams must register by August 14 with Sharron Turman at 870-882-5430.

Shania Montgomery appeared on Region 8 News Midday Monday.

She said it’s a tournament for all levels of athletes.

“Girls softball teams, we are going to have several divisions,” Montgomery said.

There will be a machine pitch category for a variety of ages and high school teams are also eligible.

Montgomery is invested in this event with her children.

“It’s really great to see them do something they love and also help their community,” Montgomery said.

All of the proceeds will benefit an organization that helps communities across Region 8.

“All of the gate fees and all of the money from our t-shirt sales will benefit United Way,” Montgomery said.

She said United Way uses the money for a variety of programs, programs that could help some of the softball players.

“It’s a real sense of community in the softball groups and you know United Way reaches out to 8 counties,” Montgomery said.

Team registration costs $200 and each team is guaranteed 3 games.

There will also be a meet and greet with the Lady Red Wolves Softball Team at the tournament.
