KENNETT, MO (KAIT) -

For several years the city of Kennett has opted out of the tax-free weekend, but not this year.

This year, residents will be able to enjoy some deals.

Meli Purputidis, the owner of Melis Clothing Boutique, said she is thrilled for customers and has been stocking the shelves with back-to-school attire.

“It's very exciting,” Purputidis said. “It's something I believe we should have done earlier, but I'm very glad it's starting this weekend because it does save people 8% and you might not think that's a lot, but it is.”

The business will have extra help on standby to help tackle larger crowds.

“It will be busier because everybody likes savings,” Purputidis said. “So, I think everybody will be out supporting their local businesses, and we thank them for that.”

According to Purputidis, several other local businesses are also preparing for the big weekend, trying to get extra merchandise out on the shelves.

The tax-free holiday begins Friday and will end on Sunday for both Missouri and Arkansas.
