WEINER, AR (KAIT) -

Medical care is now much closer to home for some Region 8 residents.

Access Medical Clinic opened in Weiner Monday.

It is a family practice facility open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Anna Johnson, nurse practitioner, is the primary care provider at the Weiner location accepting new patients for a variety of reasons.

“We’ll see patients come in for sinuses, allergies, strep throat, to chronic problems such as hypertension, diabetes,” Johnson said.

The clinic welcomes walk-ins along with appointments.

Johnson said there is a need for medical care in rural communities because many can't travel as often as needed.

“You hopefully can increase their quality of life and their future outcomes by giving them better access to care,” Johnson said. “Somebody might not be able to make it to Jonesboro. I mean that's sometimes a 20, 30-minute drive.”

Because it is a rural health clinic, cost for treatment may not be as high.

“With the rural health clinic program there is a fee scale so that way those patients aren’t necessarily overwhelmed with costs,” Johnson said.

Access Medical Clinic also accepts most major insurance plans, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Johnson said she looks forward to serving the community and surrounding areas by making healthier citizens.

The Weiner location is just one of many Access Medical Clinics across Region 8.
