1 killed, 2 injured in head-on Missouri crash

RIPLEY COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - A Missouri woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash, while a man and girl were injured.

The crash happened Sunday afternoon on Highway 160, five miles west of Fairdealing in Ripley County.

Shayla S. Steward, 36, of Doniphan was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra west when the car crossed the center line and hit a 2005 Ford Explorer head-on, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Steward was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County coroner. MSHP states she was not wearing a seat belt.

Thomas E. Schumer, 64, and Alexia M. Schumer, 11, both of Naylor, received serious and minor injuries respectively, according to the crash report.

Thomas Schumer was airlifted to Region One Medical Center in Memphis, TN. Alexia Schumer was taken by ambulance to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Both were wearing seat belts, MSHP states.
