LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A week of events is planned for a Region 8 fair.

The Lawrence County Fair is planned for Aug. 15 through 20 in Imboden.

Holly Looney, the reigning 2015 Miss Lawrence County and Arkansas State Fair Queen, appeared on Region 8 News Midday Monday.

She discussed a variety of events at the fair including the fair queen pageant.

"On Monday, the fair queen pageant of course, on Wednesday the ice cream social and the gospel singing which is a great time as well," Looney said. "On Thursday the carnival starts, and Friday and Saturday the rodeo will start."

Looney said her favorite event is the car show.

"Last year there were over 80 cars at the car show, and it was really cool to walk around and see all of the old antique cars as well as the new cars, and getting to talk to the owners of the vehicles," Looney said.

The car show takes place on Saturday at the fair.

Looney has been involved in the pageant portion of the fair and said she encourages girls to take part.

"There are scholarships involved in the Arkansas State Fair Queen pageant," Looney said. "I received a $2,000 scholarship as well as a full ride scholarship to SAU, Southern Arkansas University, in Magnolia."

The Arkansas State Fair is also in the planning stages.

It starts October 14 and ends on October 23 in Little Rock.

"The fair queen pageant goes on the entire week," Looney said.
