MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) -

Those who use Highway 178 to cross the Bull Shoals Dam will need to find an alternate route in the coming weeks.

The Corps of Engineers will close both lanes of the highway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 18-19, to install equipment needed to refurbish the tainter gates on the dam.

Beginning Aug. 20, only one lane will remain closed while the rehab work is performed. The lane closure is expected to last through May 2017.

Additional road closures, of up to two days, will be scheduled every eight weeks to move equipment as work continues, according to a news release from the Corps of Engineers.

Those who travel in this area should expect delays, obey flagmen, and operate cautiously around equipment and work crews.

For more information, contact the Mountain Home Project Office at (870) 425-2700.
